The awesome magic dino-bird known as the Nemicolopterus crypticus was introduced with the Storybook Theme. Although this is an Air dino, its name in Greek literally means "forest dweller" and is composed of the roots [nemos = forest] and [ikolos = dweller]. The specific name crypticus stems from kryptos meaning hidden, the same root we see in the word crytography.

The stick bugs can try to hide but this dino-bird is tenacious. How many stick bugs can you see clinging to the branches? They are almost invisible, so you will have to look really, really hard. These almost invisible bugs are a tangential reference to the specific name crypticus meaning hidden. It is believed these toothless pterosaurs scampered along tree branches looking for tasty bugs! The toes and claws are well-adapted for grasping tree branches - unlike many other pterosaurs which were primarily fish eaters.
